As any essay, a survey essay has its peculiarities. At a glance, survey papers may seem like a hard assignment. In the long run, it turns out that it is the final goal of writing – the survey essay itself is what makes it different from other essays. As to the main – the parts of essay writing – they do not go anywhere.
 
If a survey essay is your assignment, then you should start with understanding the basic parts of the genre.

1. Survey papers are not papers at all without the general structure. Yes, thematically they differ from abortion papers or papers on smoking, but the pattern stays the same. If you do not want to fail your survey essay writing, make sure your paper has Introduction, Main Body and Conclusion.
2. The basics listed above are nothing if your survey essay does not have a thesis statement. This is a sentence or two stating the main idea of writing. The thesis statement of survey papers has to be somewhat arguable, but overall unbeatable. If it is weak, your entire writing will suffer.
3. Survey papers have to provide logical transitions from one paragraph to another. This means your thoughts do not end abruptly. In a survey essay one idea should smoothly flow into another. For this you have transition sentences that have to be used at the end of every paragraph of survey papers.

4. It is meaningless to say that all the ideas in survey papers have to be connected to a thesis statement; otherwise, they do not make sense. Do not remind about your statement in every new paragraph. Simply remind about it.
5. If you feel like survey papers are too complicated for you, consider ordering a term paper. Do not run the risk of failing the final assignment.
