Information System for Competitive Advantage
Chapter 2 discusses different ways of information system application in conducting business. Hence, the main function of technology lies in fostering task accomplishment, which is provided with greater consistency. It also describes the process of organizing various operations for data exchange promotion, and, finally, it shows how the company can increase its competitiveness by means of technological advancement. More importantly, the introduction of an information system improves business strategies and eliminates the manual elements of the working process, thus increasing its efficiency. Finally, information systems greatly contribute to seller-buyer relations that add value to the product. However, information system penetration to the business organization may provoke some difficulties like management misbalance and problems with distribution.
Data and Knowledge Management
This presentation reveals the importance of database introduction for knowledge transmission within the company. In particular, the chapter displays the main functions of a knowledge database system and its major benefits and challenges. The presence of a database makes the work much easier and helps to control the quality and security of information. The database system also simplifies the database process of statistical analysis of complex algorithms and identifies the opportunities for business promotion and competency. What is more important is that data processing programs are also used for transactional processing operations through the internet, thus conducting information exchange in both external and internal ways. Finally, the main benefits of knowledge management lie in enhanced creativity and efficiency of organizational performance. The problem is that an extreme focus on technology hampers life communication and knowledge update.
The Internet and Security; E-commerce & Intranets Extranets
When reading this chapter, I have learned about different samples of use of telecommunication (like e-mail, fax, newsgroups, and charts) and their importance for business conduct. Then, the text also reveals the history of the internet emergence where one could pursue the events from the sixties of the past century. In this extract, it is also possible to read about the main principles of online communication and strategies required for successful work. Finally, the chapter carefully examines the main connection types (POTS, DSL) and the backbone of the online network.
Organizational Information Systems
The chapter describes the main features of information systems at the operational, managerial, and executive levels. It also analyzes how these features promote the work of transaction processing systems, management information work, and the program of information systems. When comprehending the process of information exchange at three different levels, it is possible to understand how it influences other subsystems connected with management organization, function distribution area, global information processing, and decision-making process. Each organizational level has its own software strategies and functions. The text proves that the introduction of information systems at different levels is important for the successful and strategic work of the company. One of the most effective software introductions is videoconferencing that solves the problems with communication within and outside the organizational structure.
After analyzing the main merits and benefits of information systems and technological penetration to the management process, I have realized that a successful manager should be aware of the latest software introductions. Therefore, my main goal is to gain knowledge about different kinds of computer programs fostering information processing and transmissions. Apart from this, it is vital to study the work of online networks to keep pace with changes emerging in the company.
