From the beginning of the US nation, it always was about differences between the states. Every state is unique in its thinking and, as a result, law. The system that the American government uses to organize horizontal relationships inside the country is called federalism. Moreover, every state has its rights, as stated in the constitution.

According to the tenth Amendment of the Constitution: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” However, it does not mean that states are fully independent in their decisions. There are two types of federalism, including dual federalism and cooperative federalism. Dual federalism implies that state and national governments are divided in their power. One of the principles of this type of federalism that remains is that state taxes do not finance the national government. Cooperative federalism is a concept in which local, state, and federal governments cooperate and solve common problems. A proper example of federalism is that there is no constitutional right to marriage.

To conclude, the United States is a unique country in its history and laws. Moreover, every state is different in characteristics that are not peculiar to other states. Federalism is a concept that allows people to feel their value and freedom. It also shows different states’ strengths and helps to understand their weaknesses and work on them individually.
