My philosophy of life revolves around the golden rule ”treat others the way you want to be treated.” The rule allows me to perceive a person positively, take prohibitive measures, and be responsive. The golden rule entails treating a person with respect, understanding what is good and wrong, and wanting good things upon others, such as good health because I receive the same.
Worldviews entail sets of assumptions and beliefs that express how cultures explain and interpret experienced persons. In nursing, worldviews have reduced and ultimately eliminated the negative role of medical practitioners in producing caring disparities through cultural change. My worldview is a critically essential concept for medical disparities education that transforms the healthcare culture of professionals regarding self-reflection, open-mindedness posture, and humbleness. Disparities occur daily in the routine practices of medicine as caregivers and patients have their values and beliefs. My worldviews affect patient care as I strive better to understand clinical interactions between healthcare systems and patients. I have an in-depth and clear understanding of the patients’ values and beliefs that promote wellness through worldviews. My worldview involves positive perception and focusing on improving patient wellness through education, awareness, and treating every patient with utmost care and urgency.
Constituents of the Environment
The environment in nursing is used comprehensively to entail all the facets within which an individual or patient may be situated at any given moment in time. Persons experience values, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and physiology as internal environments. Similarly, the external settings comprise legal, religious, social, political, cultural, family, and physical contexts. In the field of medical services, environmental healthcare forms the primary concern that requires utmost consideration on the health of the society. Maintaining a healthy person and promoting health to patients requires additional services to make them feel fresh and more beneficial to self, family, and society. According to Gatchel (2018), a healthy work setting is satisfying, empowering, and safe. The prime focus of nursing is typically to change it in a manner that causes a significant effect on a patient’s health. Some factors that impact health include sunlight, cleanliness of patients, efficient drainage, sufficient food supplies, pure water, and fresh air. Lack of these areas results in the patient feeling a sense of diminished health that requires the role of a nurse to make alterations and promote health. Therefore, the concepts of the personal environment include observation, food, offering hope and advice, variety, personal cleanliness, beddings, the health of houses, light and noise, ventilation, and warming.
Interaction Between Individual and Environment
Every person is expressed uniquely and wholly through spiritual, cultural, psychological, and biological aspects in constant mutual interaction with their environments. In health promotion, individuals interact with the environment by changing it either negatively or positively in a manner that supports their living (Razack & Philibert, 2019). Person interaction with their surroundings entails their association between physical and psychological capacities and the demands put on those capacities by a person’s physical and social environment. Individual interaction with the environment depends on social and physical environmental stimuli to improve the quality of life.
Personal Views of Health
Gatchel (2018) posit that health status is a person’s relative levels of illness and wellness to the presence of functional impairment, symptoms, and physiological or biological dysfunction. Perceptions of health are subjective ratings by the affected person of their health status. I can be healthy when I am not suffering from chronic diseases, and I can also perceive myself as ill when no objective shreds of evidence of infection can be found. My point of view is that health entails in entirety well-being both socially, mentally, and physically and not the absence of illness. According to Raphael et al. (2019), healthy is a resource for daily life, not the objective of living. It is a positive concept that underscores physical capacities and personal and social resources.
Relationship Between Illness and Health
Health reflects a person or family’s spiritual, developmental, social, intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being. Health relates to the degree of unity amid the self as perceived and the self as experienced, a dynamic state that repeatedly changes as a family or individual interacts with external and internal environments. In other words, health can be experienced as harmony and unity within the spirit, body, and mind. In contrast, illness is experienced as a state of disharmony in environmental relations or amid numerous aspects of the self. According to Raphael et al. (2019), health is affected by many factors such as culture, beliefs, values, health promotion activities, perception of illness and fitness, lifestyle, age, and genetics. Therefore, the relationship between health and illness is that health impacts an individual both physically, mentally, and socially and lack of their connection results in illness.
How Nursing Leaders Promote Human Flourishing
The nurse assists a person in developing or reclaiming new pathways toward human flourishing by promoting relationship-centered nursing care, individualized care, personal growth of different patients, self-determination, integrity, and dignity. Healthcare providers experience challenges such as high turnover rates, decreased quality of nursing care, increased cost, and increased medical errors as they attempt to create balance. Making a positive change in an ever-growing demand for advanced healthcare values from patients requires healthcare givers to learn how to become influential leaders. Nurse leadership has a significant impact on the attrition and burnout of nurses in healthcare systems. Good leadership in healthcare systems causes immense influence on organizational work cultures and the satisfaction of workers (Razack & Philibert, 2019). Nurse leaders impact patient quality care and the effectiveness of the organization.
Promotion of human flouring can be achieved when there is managerial support, good nurse relationships, and responsive correction of problems. There are numerous leadership models that nursing leaders employ to promote human flourishing such as servant, transformational, adaptive, and transactional leadership styles. Applying servant leadership style in a healthcare environment is essential as it underscores the team’s strength, serving the needs of patients and creating trust. Servant leadership shows concern for others and prioritizes their needs and interests to improve the value of care.
The Central Reason for the Existence of Nursing
Healthcare is ranked among the public’s top priorities, and nursing as a healthcare unit plays a significant role. Nursing is the most diverse and respected occupation inside the health care field that advocates for educating patients and aims at taking care of individuals, families, and society so they may achieve, sustain or recuperate optimal health and quality life. Nursing entails more than just caring for the individual daily or assigned time. Nurses aid the stability of individuals, families, and communities during illness by helping them understand their emotional, physical, and mental experience and cultural effects (Moule et al., 2017). Nursing allows individuals and their families to accept their illness and educate them on how to live with it so that other aspects of their lives may not be affected. Nursing comprises self-governed and collective care of individuals of different ages, families, communities, sick or healthy, and in every diversity of settlement. It fosters health preventing every possible illness and supervising the ill, the injured, physically challenged, and dying. Nurses also contribute to health care research, policy deliberation, management, and patient advocacy (Gatchel, 2018). Those with post-baccalaureate programs are charged with independent roles such as facilitating primary health care and other special services that an individual, family, or community might need.
