Introduction
Specific Goal
A lot of life situations require group work, and success in it is crucial for the good of the class, business, or team. When you collaborate with others, you may pool your thoughts and consider issues from several angles. In a collaborative setting, one can attempt to do things that could not be completed alone, combining various knowledge and expertise to address more challenging and extensive issues (Forsyth, 2018). Working effectively in a group environment and getting the most out of the experience can be difficult for some people.
Attention Getter
The abundance of group work prevented me from developing deep relationships with my co-workers, and this narrative will reflect on my transformation of how I now view teamwork. As a result, I was able to actively participate in a variety of initiatives that I would not have been able to do on my own and improve my listening and conflict-resolution skills.
Listener Relevance Link
After some consideration, I identified the aspects of myself that contribute to the significant communication issue that virtually all of the divisions we have examined face. While detecting the issue proved to be the most challenging aspect, this reasoning required some time. Lack of self-control, an inability to disperse dispute resolution, a lack of awareness of group dynamics, and difficulties with group work led to the abandoning of this practice. Communication issues are a complicated matter that calls for serious research.
Thesis and Main Point Preview
The diagnosis of the issue, its history, and possible solutions should all be taken into account. Conclusions will be possible when this investigation is completed. First of all, it is essential to consider the background of the issue. The key consideration is that a lack of self-control, an inability to disperse dispute resolution, a lack of awareness of group dynamics, and difficulties with group work led to abandoning this practice. Let us examine the beginning of it all.
Background
Struggling and avoiding group initiatives have a history that is mostly rooted in social characteristics and identity formation. In essence, group work often involves conflicts of interest, the recruitment and promotion of opposing viewpoints, and the active influence of others. This has never been my strong side because I rather like to find solutions on my own without considering how others would see me. This problem was made worse by a childhood that valued personal individuality over the help of others. After briefly discussing my background, I will discuss what causes my issue and my terrible habit of upholding this identity.
Diagnosis of the Problem
Diagnosing the issue was a complex task, and it turned into self-reflection. Identifying the background was crucial to comprehend the key component of avoiding group work. After a number of self-reflection sessions, the problem became apparent. I found out the struggle with working with a group comes from communication issues and personal perceptions, as well as identity repercussions, which hinder group work confidence. Within these settings, it became easier to locate possible consequences. I became aware of how my actions affected me and the people around me at that very time. I have been able to go on now that I have been able to pinpoint so many contributing elements.
Consequences of the Problem
The problem described has a number of consequences that can affect different aspects of life and communication. Avoidance of group work can lead to making assumptions and misinterpretations. In general, it will lead to failure in working together and further stringing of relationships. Within different settings, the issue can also manifest itself in uneven contributions, resulting in fear of raising opinions and completely dismissing the discussion part of any issue. In the workplace, this can develop into a lack of focus and disorganization, which can present an unclear task division (Forsyth, 2018). On a personal level, avoiding group work can result in interpersonal conflicts and vulnerability to the effects of groupthink. These consequences can seriously impact my life and be harmful to my professional development, which requires strategies to resolve the issue.
Strategies to Resolve the Problem
There are different strategies to resolve the issue, many of which are crucial to comprehend. Successful interaction in various groups and society at large requires a thorough grasp of group dynamics and their function in a group activity. Each individual member of a group working toward a shared objective will work efficiently and reach the objectives established by the group when there is excellent momentum in the group. This misconception permeated my earlier thinking, which made me decide to shun collective tasks. Joint efforts are ensured with shared leadership, which also makes it easier to assume a leadership position (Zhu et al., 2018). Although there is still just one person in control, the group as a whole has different positions of authority. People have greater liberty in making decisions pertaining to their positions or an open-door policy where everyone’s thoughts are considered equally under these circumstances (Forsyth, 2018). Given my penchant for uniqueness and dependability in myself, this is significant. The capacity to evaluate one’s own strengths and limitations is a crucial component of functioning in a team. To enhance learning outcomes in this respect, self-assessments and reflections using tools like personality tests or learning diaries would be helpful (Zhu et al., 2018). I inspired myself to develop plans to accomplish the goals I had set for myself in terms of group collaboration. This emphasized the value of developing teamwork skills in addition to more specialized learning material.
Conclusion
The narrative of the communication challenge with group work is not a rare occasion since many students and adults face similar issues. The reflection on the issue, diagnosis of the problem, and figuring out the strategies to resolve it helped me to comprehend the importance of being a team player. The communication strategies and approaches served as a theoretical foundation for this narrative, which indicated different variables in the resolution of the issue. Overall, as it was seen, there are a number of possible solutions that offer perspectives that can be applicable in many domains and helped me to become a better person.
Group work, in essence, is crucial in most workplaces and classroom settings. Avoiding it and focusing on one’s initiative is the wrong strategy for reaching success. While individual efforts are no less important, working in a team towards a shared goal multiplies benefits and allows one to view the issue from different perspectives. This approach took me some time to comprehend. However, I want to develop my group work competencies in a comprehensive and multi-disciplined manner.
