Future Society and Human Behaviors

Introduction

From the sociology perspective, a society entails a group of individuals that live together specifically to help one another in living life and simultaneously enhancing their circumstances. In the past, a society mainly involved people living together; nonetheless, recent progression in human lifestyles and behaviors have played an essential role in making societies a critical concept. There are several levels of cohesion and various diverse aspects in different societies. A closer analysis of the elements of a society allows one to design a future society based on existing human behaviors in other societies. More specifically, a society that might exist in beyond the year 2090 could be categorized under post-industrial society. This type of society could be described as one that has transitioned from the existing one with goods to an economy of services with enhanced invention and innovation of contemporary technology.

Society’s Description

The ideal society is located in Miami, a coastal region in the U.S. found in Florida. Its population is roughly three million individuals. The percentage of population change in this society is about ten percent. Due to the large population, this society has most of the races that are common in the U.S. The whites dominate the population, with more than fifty percent of the entire population. The African Americans follow the whites in the population of this society. Other ethnic groups include American Indians, Asians, and native Hawaiian. Young adults and older people make up the majority of the population, with this group consisting of persons aged twenty-five to sixty-five. A critical review of this age group shows that the community is highly productive since there are individuals with the ability to be effective and create high value.

In this society, females are more in number compared to males, with approximately a three percent difference between them. The concept of class is evident in this society since it involves individuals that hold a specific social and economic position. Class is determined by considering socioeconomic variables, including occupation, education, wealth, and income. The existing social classes in the community consist of the upper, upper-middle, middle, and working lower classes. Manstead (2018) postulates that these social classes are a representation of the overall approach adopted in popular language. In this society, three percent of individuals are grouped in the upper class, fifteen percent in the upper-middle class, and forty-three percent in the middle class, thirty percent in the working class, and eight percent in the lower class. However, it is crucial to highlight that these classes shift from time to time and cannot be regarded as stationary.

Major Institutions

One of the leading institutions in this society is the concept of the family. The family institution forms the basis of this society since it performs diverse functions and is critical for an individual’s well-being and survival. A closer analysis of this institution highlights that its primary objective involves protecting children, nurturing them with love, enabling social skills, and teaching them critical life skills (Durham & Kellner, 2012). The family mainly involves heterosexual parents with children or multi-generational families, involving grandparents and families with other family members like step-parents and step-siblings. The economic institution is another predominant aspect of this society. The institution mainly works in society to guarantee seamless production, distribution, and consumption of crucial goods and services. The institution is commonly influenced by government and state institutions.

The religious institution is a significant concept in this society. DiMaggio (2019) views this social institution as an organized system of beliefs explicitly created to address the human desire for purpose and meaning. As a result, this society places crucial emphasis on religion, and its importance is relative to sacred elements. Its primary function is instilling moral values among people and helping them socialize. Besides, it enables them to shape themselves and have a positive perspective of the world around them. It further provides people with a sense of security and comfort and a basis for community support. The media is another notable social institution in this society. Its significance is crucial since it disseminates information to everyone. The media acts as a gatekeeper to essential information by utilizing stereotypes as the underlying tool to communicate specific values of the dominant societal culture.

Education is another important social institution in this society. Its importance is based on the idea that it offers individuals essential information such as cultural values, job skills, and basic facts about life. As a social institution, it enables people in this society to socialize with young adults and children by providing crucial values, beliefs, and norms of their respective cultures. It also helps to transmit vital cultural heritage among generations and the knowledge required to ensure a productive society. A final social institution evident in this society is the government. Its leading responsibility is maintaining law and order, providing a common good, and protecting societies from harm. The government realizes these objectives by utilizing its agencies and sub-institutions, including the military, courts, and the police, to prevent crime and enforce law and order. Additionally, the government provides this society with critical social services, like healthcare and education.

People of this Society

People in this society have diverse principles that they underscore to ensure effectiveness. One principle emphasized by individuals is respect for everyone. Individuals underpin all essential values required for a productive community and narrow it down to respect. The principle of respect is considered irrespective of a person’s gender, age, ethnicity, and background. According to this society, respect entails treating all people as individuals and having individual needs considered at all times. Another principle of this society is making work worthwhile since most people tend to make work worthwhile. The principle is taken into account since most people value work because it gives them a sense of accomplishment. An additional principle in this society is compassion for everyone. Everyone recognizes the challenges that everyone undergoes, and the idea of compassion allows all individuals to determine the importance of helping one another.

The people of this society consider goals as a driving force to realize their specific set objectives. The goals range among individuals depending on their ages. A principal goal for children and young adults is career objectives. People pursue this goal by making a series of short-term career goals to allow them to realize this long-term goal. Most people also aim to achieve financial goals to improve their lives and immediate communities. Financial and career goals are often intertwined because financial objects are essential in helping one achieve the other. The financial goals of people in this community mainly involve building their own homes, making more money, getting out of debt, and saving enough for retirement.

The leading ambition of the people in this society is the desire to be great at something. People from this society pursue to increase their skills and hobbies to enable them to elevate from amateur to experts. This ambition is noteworthy since it allows them to understand the fundamental aspects that will help them to cultivate a productive society. Another aspiration is wanting to be an expert in all aspects of life. In this case, being an expert entails all the set objectives set by an individual and realizing them over the years. Therefore, this ambition allows them to have the desire to grit and be determined. The general dream of the people is to create a safe environment for all people to help them thrive. All individuals recognize the importance of having a good society because it will allow them to live fulfilling lives; thus, they consider their dream to create a good environment. The guiding ideologies of this society if liberalism, conservativeness, and progressiveness.

Material and Non-Material Culture

This society has diverse aspects of material and non-material culture. The material culture is more complex, considering it is a developed society with various physical elements. It includes well-furnished homes, educational institutions, religious places, and means of production, offices, stores, and factories. All these elements of material culture in this society play a leading role in defining the general perceptions and behaviors of the people (Durham & Kellner, 2012). Perhaps the most crucial aspect of material culture in this community is technology. Technology is adopted in almost all aspects of society, including business, education, healthcare, and leadership. The technology helps the respective organizations to run seamlessly and improve their productivity. This material culture forced all individuals to transition and learn to use computers to survive in the challenging corporate environment.

This society’s primary non-material culture entails non-physical ideas that individuals possess concerning their culture. More specifically, this involves specific rules, morals, norms, beliefs, and values. Moral idealism is mainly emphasized by the government and society in general. This non-material culture determines morality with the ideal moral rules that all persons must follow. Moral idealism helps to shape all individuals in the community by enabling universal rules. Obedience is a predominant characteristic of moral idealism, which strives to ensure that all people focus on the right behaviors. A closer review of this ideology points out that moral idealism emphasizes personal philosophy. In this case, it considers specific individuals in society, including their duties and rights, as universal irrespective of the intended result.

Socio-Cultural Policy

One socio-cultural policy that will be part of this society is enabling human sustainability to improve human capital. This policy should be emphasized in this society because it ensures that all local and global investments in education systems and health can be presented to all individuals. The policy strives to connect with international bodies to enable easy access to skills, knowledge, services, and nutrition. A second policy is promoting social sustainability to preserve the existing social capital. This policy can be advanced by the leaders preserving the social capital and investing services that constitute this society’s framework. The policy accommodates a broad view of the world and its relation to globalization, cultures, and communities. Another policy is to advance economic stability to sustain the capital intact. This policy is crucial because it ensures improved social equality and economic sustainability to enhance society’s living standards.

An additional socio-cultural policy that would be part of this society to show a just and sustainable community is ensuring equality for all members and improving human welfare simultaneously. The policy works to enhance human welfare and quality of life by protecting natural capital. More specifically, initiatives and programs in the policy will be identified when they attempt to ensure all citizens’ needs are realized without necessarily compromising future generations. Adopting these policies will further help to advance the existing pillars of sustainability that create an effective society. This society will further use these policies to improve international relations with other countries worldwide. Besides this, it will connect with the planetary world by engaging in international trade, protecting the environment, and working together with other societies to ensure a reliable community.

Evaluation

A close review of this society points out crucial intuitions that drive the conclusion that I would choose to live in it. More specifically, I would prefer to live in this society because it is peaceful. The aspect of peace is realized by the federal government enacting practical policies and institutions allowing members to live peacefully. An immediate impact of this concern is that there are no significant threats among the members. The institutions ensure peaceful co-existence among individuals regardless of their differences. I would also choose to live in this society because it provides everyone with crucial opportunities necessary to flourish. For example, some opportunities ensure individuals live long and healthy lives, cultural pursuits, educational opportunities, and economic chances for all people. It also provides good foreign relations with neighboring societies and nations, thus allowing me to agree that I would not mind living in this society.

Additionally, I would choose to live in this society because it emphasizes fairness and equity. Dumas (2019) postulates that life is not fair, and there is no way society could be entirely fair. However, based on the issues presented about this society, it is evident that it is a good society because it is not grossly imbalanced. It implies that its leaders will not allow other people to prosper at the expense of others using negative strategies, including fraud, oppression, intimidation, or domination. Due to this, I would consider living in this society because all persons would have a roughly equal amount of resources. Therefore, the idea that every individual will not have significantly more than another person prompts me to consider living in this society.

Conclusion

An analysis of this future society is not entirely different from existing societies. While there are similarities to contemporary societies, the differences paint a picture of an almost utopian society where all individuals value the concepts of peace, unity, and togetherness. These concepts allow the creation of a community that links with other people globally, internationally and trans-nationally. The people of this society can be described as ambitious, with practical principles and goals to enable an influential guiding ideology that emphasizes a productive community. A closer analysis of the elements of a society allows designing a future society based on existing human behaviors to present a depiction of a society in the year 2090. A review of all the leading aspects of a society allows me to conclude that I will live in this society because it underscores the positive characteristics of an organization and expresses optimism.
